Vanoil Energy is a Canadian oil and gas company with properties in Kenya and Rwanda. Vanoil holds two blocks in Eastern Kenya secured by production sharing contracts. Blocks 3A and 3B total 24,912 square kilometers and are located at a confluence of three sedimentary basins (Anza, Mochesa and Lamu), with the Anza basin having some evidence of a working Cretaceous petroleum zone.
Vanoil's blocks are located adjacent to Block 9, the technically advanced concession held and operated by Marathon Oil and Africa Oil. Vanoil also has the exclusive rights to the 1,631 square kilometer oil and gas concession in the northwestern part of Rwanda known as the "East Kivu Graben". With the discovery of oil in southwestern Uganda by Heritage Oil and Tullow Oil, this area in Rwanda may be an analogous extension of that discovery.
